Hereford Spring Carriage Driving Show.

Hereford Spring Carriage Driving Show , May 4th 2009

Held at the Hereford racetrack this was one of the biggest carriage shows of 2009. With two rings running all day  and a combined driving event with dressage and cones taking place in a third ring there were many classes to choose from and a huge variety of turnouts to admire. These can be seen in our gallery.

Two of our Powys group  BDS members had an exceptionally  successful day : Jackie Cartwright driving her lovely coloured stallion Just Toto to a varnished wood wagonette  was placed in the country vehicles  and won the ride and drive class and the coloured horse class.

Emily Ham driving her Section C stallion Crossfield Glory won their Combined driving class with their Hartland four wheeler marathon vehicle and had then great fun giving show organiser Lester Dagge a ride on the backstep so he could compete his young Dalmation Buttons in the Carriage dog class . Buttons had her own agenda about how a carriage dog should catch the judge’s eye .... with her amusing antics she was certainly a crowd pleaser!

Emily started the day in her Private Driving gear and in her Liverpool gig took the first class – the Registered Welsh judged by Caroline Dale Leech , then the next  the Concours D’Elegance  championship chosen by Horse and Hound’s Kerry Bowness. Later in the day she was awarded first in the Single  Private Driving by Minta Winn and then took the overall Private Driving Championship with these two judges joined by Sarah Wildy.  She also won the Points Championship as the most successful driver of the day and the coveted Supreme Champion of the show.

Emily and Jackie teamed up in the Whip and Groom class to take turns driving Just Toto to first place.
It was certainly a day to remember!
